Description
Implementation of cleaner technologies for sectors such as transportation, coal-fired powerplants, and industry has resulted in a reduction in urban anthropogenic emissions across select pollutants. This has refocused efforts to understand the contribution of biomass burning (BB) and mineral dust to urban air quality. With an aim to address scientific air quality questions about the frequency and seasonality of BB plumes and mineral dust in Texas, the Black and Brown carbon (BC) 2 network, was established in the year 2019. The network is currently in its fourth year of operation and specifically focuses on the Houston (Liberty and Aldine)-Galveston and El Paso metropolitan areas, with recent expansion into the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
