The archaeological sites of Sidi Abderrahmane (SAR) Quarries are located on the western outskirts of Casablanca (Morocco’s economic capital), at c. 1 km from the Atlantic Ocean coast. The reference coordinates for the study area are 33.574° N, 7.695° W. The entire quarry area is named after a holy Moslem man, Sidi Abderrahman Ibn Jilali, originally from Bagdad (Iraq), who was buried on a small islet nearby. For a long time, Sidi Abderrahmane quarries were the source of well-contextualized Acheulean assemblages and paleontological remains in the Maghreb region. Our research at the sites since 1978 has brought to light the presence in the study area of two regionally distinct Acheulean phases, named, the First Regional Acheulean, characterized by picks, trihedrons, handaxes, cleavers; and the Second Regional Acheulean, represented by symmetrical handaxes, cleavers, cobble tools, and abundant flakes …
